SSR Director Wendy Breakell, sister of SSR MD and founder John Breakell:
“In 1980, when Spirit SSR opened its doors in a basement in Manchester, my brother’s vision was to create the first audio engineering school in the UK delivering training that would be respected and recognised as the best by the industry. From that principle, SSR was able to develop into the huge and highly successful operation that we are today. Now 30 years on, I think we know my brother got it right, and so it is fantastic for me to be given this great opportunity to open our second campus based on those principles that guided us in 1984 and which continue to lead us now.”

Based in Camden, SSR London will be delivering industry recognised and highly innovative training in sound and film. Delivered by industry professionals in state of the art facilities, SSR offers full and part time courses in audio engineering, music production, film and music video and audio post production for TV and film. Students will be working in a top end recording studio, housing the classic Neve VR 60 with Studer Analogue Tape, Pro Tools HD, Apple's Logic Studio and plenty of vintage outboard gear. The Avid ICON and Foley studio will provide an elite and unique environment for post production, comparable to the very best post production houses in Soho. Our film course students will be using professional cameras and green screen, with Final Cut and Avid systems. SSR is a respected international brand and is supported by leading industry employers. Our top end Spirit Studio incorporates a Neve VR60 mixing console with flying faders, PMC monitoring, Pro Tools HD, Studer analogue tape and racks of new & vintage outboard from brands including Tube Tech, Urei, Focusrite, Lexicon and AMS. This will all be complemented with microphones you'd expect to find at Abbey Road and Air including Neumann, AKG & Sennheiser.

Our media facilities a post production ICON D-Command Studio with Pro Tools HD, 5.1 Audio monitoring and widescreen film projection. Our dance production mixing studio is centered around an Apple Mac Pro with Apogee audio interfaces with a plethora of software and old analogue synths to provide the perfect home to our students who like to mix ‘in the box’. Our Computer suite houses an Apple iMac for each student, along with an audio interface, MIDI Keyboard and a vast amount of software. The film room incorporates green screen with Sony Z1 cameras.

All studios have been professionally soundproofed and acoustically treated, leaving no stone unturned to ensure we provide the best equipped music, audio and media production college in London where learners enter excited and leave as happy as they do in Manchester.

Our sister campus in Manchester was established in 1984, and was the first audio engineering school in the UK. SSR is a recognised centre of excellence and respected global brand for audio engineering, music production and media courses.
